This terrific one-of-a-kind upcycled tote bag is made with purple denim from a jean factory in the garment district of downtown Los Angeles. The pocket on the front is from a pair of blue denim jeans. The entire outside of the bag has been freehand machine embroidered into a striking plaid. The trim and straps are made from a mix of old and new - the magic mushroom fabric is new, and the purple strapping, along with the fabric lining, wristlet, zipper pocket and lobster claw latch are hand-dyed cotton linen shirting (from a dress shirt factory, also in DTLA). And the handle straps are both magic mushroom and blue denim jeans.
It is approximately measures 15” x 15” x 5” and has an invisible zipper panel, an internal zipper pocket, a d-ring and wristlet are to hook keys and such, and 20" handle straps and an up-to 64" adjustable and removable shoulder strap . All external materials are backed with fusible backing to make it sturdy and it has 2 total pockets.
This bag is, I'd say, 85% upcycled and is big enough to hold a computer, an afghan-sized yarny project, 9 skeins of yarn (as shown in photo) or it could be a purse or a kickass diaper bag... the possibilities are endless.
